Hello everyone,

I’m back looking for some guidance. If anyone has read my previous posts, I recently went through the HIMS Neurophysiological evaluations for my Class I medical certification. I submitted all my paperwork, but apparently (yes, I know this is frustrating) I told my primary care doctor that I had smoked weed in the past. This led to a deferred case with the FAA. I received a letter today requesting the following:

  1. A forensic 10-panel urine drug screen within 48 hours of signing for receipt of the certified mail.
  2. A statement detailing the frequency of use, the amount used, the settings, and the date of last use.
  3. Information on whether I have experienced any economic, legal, or other adverse consequences related to drug use.
  4. If any treatment was required, I need to provide the dates and records.
To be honest, I’m pretty freaked out. I went to take the test right away since I don’t know when the letter was delivered, but the clinic I went to said they don’t send results directly to the FAA. I’ll have to forward the results myself. Has anyone gone through this before? How did you send your results to the FAA?

Also, I’m unsure what to include in my statement. Here are some facts:

  1. I haven’t smoked weed in about two years.
  2. I only smoked on social occasions (about once or twice a month).
  3. I’ve never had a DUI.
  4. I’ve never tested positive on a drug test.
  5. I don’t use any other drugs.
  6. I’ve never had any economic or legal problems, nor any other adverse consequences related to drug use.
  7. I simply stopped smoking; I never underwent any treatment.
If anyone has advice or insight on how to navigate this situation, I would really appreciate it.

You should already be working with a HIMS AME, so you may want to discuss with him ASAP.

Yes as prior noted. If the test is not recieved or is positive you get denied immediately. Why don't you go to a place that can report directly to OKC, like a Labcorp?

2,3, &4 are just an honest essay response. But A HIMS AME can determine the best way to not shoot yourself in both feet.
If you are too vague you get the HIMS psychiatrist eval. demand.

I CANNOT believe youare looking for assitance from an Internet board. You need to consult with a HIMS AME. Lindberg above is correct.
You should be on a proof of abstinence urine test program as you'll see from the next letter that comes after you reply to this one., and you'll wish you had begun back in September. Why? Every HIMS psychiatrist (not psychologist-that's a how is your brain wroking, person),wants a good period of proven sovbriety, not claimed, chest beating unsubstantiated sobirety, B4 they see you.

4 months is a federal requirement for adjudged abuse. 6 months for any dry-dependnecy, application.Make no mistake they are trying to determine into which bucket to throw you.

Maybe I failed to mention- you need to hire expertise. Consult with a HIMS AME.

About 2 years ago I got a six page emial form a midlife attorney. He had parsed as much fo the regs as he could and concluded that I neede to issue him a certificate without the FAA. "Just issue it". I replied, you missed whole sections of the FARs and in additdion, some policy is NOT published. I inquired if he does his own surgery, and to call me after the denial.

Well he just this week asked me to take his case. It was sooo needless. But I sensed his arrogance was going to get in his way- in life in his profession and in working with a "superior authority": the FAA. I turned him down. I told him, "Get expert advice, but that I was not available (to him)".
