I’m working through the capabilities of a G5 HSI

I’m looking at setting up a G5 as an HSI with a GMU11 and GAD29D.
My question is whether I can drive the G5 with both a SL30 (nav/Ils) and a Garmin 400W (gps only) for RNAV.
I think the GAD29 allows for this as long as I don’t have an autopilot but I’m not sure.

TIA

Yes, and the shop can install a switch so that you choose which the G5 displays, either the SL30 or the G400W. However, will you accept single point of failure? If the G5 fails, you only have the LOC on the SL30, and no ILS precision display.

You can connect the GPS via THE Air whatever (can't remember it just now) protocol that Garmin uses to the GAD29 and then connect the SL30 directly to the G5 via RS232. This is only possible with no autopilot or a Garmin autopsy, it is not allowed with a non-Garmin AP.

I don't have a 400W and SL30, but I do have a GPS and separate Nav/Com installed with my Dual G5's (GNX 375 and GNC 255). I am able to select the source right on the G5 HSI, no need for an additional switch.
