In January, we're heading North, and I'm being offered the choice between Nampa and Caldwell.

My friend actually lives closest to Homedale (S66) but I'm not doing that.

Pros/Cons?

Why not Homedale? I'm based at Caldwell, but Nampa is a good airport as well.

What type of info are you looking for?

There’s no FBO at Caldwell so it’s pretty laid back. Lots of transient parking.

Nampa has only a few transient spots but a great restaurant on the field.

Gas is usually cheaper at Caldwell.

Let me know if I can help.

I was at Caldwell KEUL for a few years. Nice airport and a great parts shop on the field. Lots of builders there and good atmosphere.
There is a Robinson Helicopter school there so you have to pay attention to the traffic patters - 12 is Left and 30 is Right. Let me know if you have any other questions. Have fun.

Good point by rockwood. Caldwell is the busier of the two because of the schools on field so expect long.... uh...... radio.....um.....correction.....uhhhh.....calls. And wide bomber patterns that they could never make it back to the runway from if an engine quit. The helo pattern is over the highway to the south of the runway (regardless of wind) and the fixed wing is to the north side of the field (regardless of wind).

AvCenter in Nampa may be able to provide a shade hangar next to the FBO. Those have power if you have an engine heater. You may want to join Treasure Valley Pilots on FB, I see folks able to help out others with transient hangar space from time to time. I'm based at KMAN and would be happy to help in any way that I can as well...
