I’m looking to get my IR and stumbled upon his website. It looks like he has his own plane based out of KRYY. I couldn’t find much online so was curious if anybody was familiar with his operation and would recommend him as a CFI. Thanks!

Unfamiliar but oddly enough, he has some yelp reviews.
They seem to speak highly of his competence as an instructor.

Brian Smith is a *fantastic* CFI/CFII, professional, knowledgeable, and fully prepares his students for their checkrides. He has a top of the line C-172, one of the nicest planes I've ever trained in, affordable, and his flexibility with your schedule as a student is unmatched anywhere else in Atlanta. I highly recommend Aerosmith Aviation.

I just started flying with AeroSmith Aviation and am very impressed. Brian is focused on my success and working me through the program. He is an excellent instructor. The equipment is also very nice with up to date avionics. I highly recommend Aerosmith.

Brian is a great instructor, he pushes you to your full potential. He got me ready for my checkride and I passed thanks to him. His plane is also great.

Brian has been one of the best instructors I've been lucky enough to take a class from. I have been to 4 different schools trying to find the right place for my training and none of them challenged me. Brian has tailored his to meet my needs and spent many hours off the clock calling, texting, and emailing me study work above and beyond what I paid him for. I have been extremely impressed with his knowledge and devotion. All this I'm saying comes from a 25+ year physical skills trainer and teacher (myself). I have trained 100's of thousands in 28 different courses that I train (unrelated to flying). I would recommend this school to anyone who wishes to fly at any level of learning.

I chose Brian as my CFI after reading a few great reviews on his website, and I am very happy I did. I was looking for a more personal training experience compared to other flight schools in the area that have less opportunity for tailored instruction. Brian has been an incredible instructor, going above and beyond to train me to be a competent and safe pilot rather than just meeting the minimums. He is easy to get along with and makes you feel comfortable in the airplane while encouraging you to ask questions when you aren't sure of something. His training style is great, he lets you make reasonable mistakes to help you learn from them and learn how to avoid them in the future. As a third-generation pilot, I've had some experience with other instructors and I have been nothing but impressed with his competence as a pilot and instructor. I have professional pilot goals, and I will undoubtedly be training with Brian for my IFR and Commercial ratings. His C172 is in amazing condition with advanced avionics, GPS, autopilot, and a great engine monitor. You will learn to fly in a great aircraft and gain valuable experience with more advanced avionics. I can't recommend him enough, great experience, and great rates compared to the alternatives in the area. You will have fun training, but also feel confident as a more competent pilot. Highly recommend!

I hear that dude looks like a lady

He won’t teach you how to fly but he can show you how to walk this way

I know Brian Smith. I flew out to KRYY to get trained and checked out by him on the PA46 Malibu M350. I did two days of hands on training with him and found him to be knowledgeable. I thought he was a great CFI and let me tell you he's very passionate about telling you about lean of peak. When I say passionate I mean there is nobody that wants to talk about the lean of peak more than him.

Haha, good to know. Thank you!

Dont know George but I never thought someone would be that passionate about lean of peak as much as Brian. lol

Whenever I got stumbled on a topic I just said I'd lean the mixture and he would say correct. lol
George Braly is the guy who started everyone on lean of peak operations when he started building and installing GAMIjectors years ago. He and John Deakin and Walter Atkinson taught a lot of folks how to run LOP in their Advanced Pilot Seminars. Walter and John have both gone west.

I'm a current student of his (PPL, near checkride, so can't speak to IR stuff) and would recommend him. He's very focused on making sure you're doing it the right way, and not operating in the margins. And yes, LOP evangelist, lol. His C172L is in good shape, a couple of G5s, GPS, and AP. Great training aircraft, I always feel safe in it. He's a good dude, experienced and professional, and charges a reasonable rate.
