[NA] Where to get Philly cheese steak?

...where's that 'stir the pot' emoji, 'cause I'm about to do it...

Heading to central PA via Philly this weekend for a family event. Will have some time to kill Monday afternoon before heading back to the airport and want to try to get my foodie 12 y/o son exposed to 'real' Philly cheese steak sandwiches. So what you got? Where should we go? We'll likely end up in the Liberty Hall area mid-day'ish if that impacts anything.
 
I see a Pats vs Genos debate starting ……

I’m a Philly native but only visit anymore. On the way out of the airport I like Leo’s. Coworkers at a nearby facility recommended it years ago.

Edit. If your by the bell. Walk to Redding Station which is a big food hall now. There are a few cheesesteak places in there too.

The Philly mint is also right there if you have time
 
I'm not from Philly, but been a couple times.

Pat's and Geno's are across the street from each other.

Tony Luke's is also good.
 
Geno’s, but honestly anywhere along the Italian market on 9th will have good ones. You also can’t go to Philly without getting a cannoli from Rim Cafe.
 
Just to circle back on this.. We ended up at Tony & Nick's in South Philly. It was a bit of a haul from Liberty Bell area, but it was enroute to the airport, so acceptable.

Dang.. That's good stuff! I was really surprised by how good the bread was! Also surprised at how few onions were actually included. I'm definitely going to have to tweak my own recipe going forward.

Would definitely visit again. When I got it, I thought "Oh man. I'm going to have to force this one down and feel horrible later" but I'll just say there were no crumbs left behind and no regret was had. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!
 
I fly through Philly every year on my way to Watertown NY. Tony Lukes is in the airport. Last time it was $25 for a cheese steak, fries and a small drink. I think I’ll skip it this year which is exactly one month from today
 
Been years since I was there, but the stromboli was so good I wanted it for every meal and the relatives that live there would laugh:)
 
Dalessandro's in Manayunk for the win. It’s in Nw Philly, so not too far from Wings field, if you thinking about heading out that way.

Some other recs from me are Angelos on south 9th St in So Philly, Sonny’s on market street by the liberty bell.

Also, if you are on Market Street, hit Franklin Fountain for ice cream. My wife has made us make day trips to Philly just for a sundae there.

Lastly, honorable mention for the Thunderbird in Broomall, as I have been eating cheesesteaks and hoagies their for the last 45 years, and my dad 20 years before that.
 
Fortunately, we can get a great Philly Cheesesteak here in Fenwick Island, DE. A local pub, High Stakes, was opened a decade ago by a father-son team who moved here from Philadelphia. They still have rolls and meat brought down from Philly. Most customers just order a cheesesteak - but I order mine "Philly style," with green peppers, onions and Whiz (of course).

Per their website, yes. I haven't been there yet though... the steaks just won't be the same until the new grills accumulate the requisite amount of grease.
 
Dalessandro’s Get’s my money when I can give it to them. Lines can be rough though.

I lived a couple of blocks from Jim's on South Street in the early 80s. My cholesterol level is much lower now since I moved...

... but I do miss it.
 
Any Philadelphia locals here that can FedEx me some WaWa white American cheese and some Amoroso rolls? Maybe through in a couple of ponds of scrapple too?
