I had my Class 1 AME examination on 9/23. i already knew i was going to be deferred and had all my paperwork collected before my appointment. My AME said they'd scan everything and send it to the FAA. Currently looking at my MedXpress application and its stuck at imported with it saying the AME needs to transmit my app within 14 days. Today is currently day 14, and im a little worried. I have called the office and they said they'd contact me back since they're busy atm. Does anyone know what'll happen if it passes 14 days?

I'd call them back: "On the off chance it becomes relevant, who is your malpractice carrier?"

That might focus their attention on meeting a deadline. Then send a written reminder to their office -- by fax so you have confirmation that they received it before the deadline expired.

DJ you shouldn't have to worry about that deadline, because the AME gets disciplined if he doesn't send it in by the 14th day. He'll remember.

Sorry, Doc. I'm a little prickly about getting blown off by the back-office hens. Plus, missing a deadline is the most common way someone in my profession gets gigged.

I suppose the more polite way would be to reiterate to the office staff that this is a first class application, and therefore, by definition, the applicant's ability to earn their professional living depends on successful (not to mention timely) completion of the process.

I would think mentioning malpractice insurance would have the doc running in the opposite direction once they submit the paperwork

I'm skeptical this would fall under medical malpractice anyways. The FAA seems to make it clear that the AME is not your doctor and not providing treatment to you as a patient, but instead conducting an evaluation. Hopefully it all resolves well though. I've had a non-responsive HIMS AME at one point and I'm glad I got the FAA to switch me to a different doc.

If I ever asked a professional working for me for the name of his insurance carrier as leverage, I'd expect it to be our last conversation.

So, OP, did it get sent on time?
