FltPlan.com - Help me understand this.

It’s 2024. Why does Garmin’s flight plan software feel like is 2004? Seriously, this thing is terrible and doesn’t really provide any good service to Garmin Pilot (which I use), Foreflight’s flight planning module is infinitely superior. Thoughts? Is there some awesome feature in FltPlan.com that I am missing?

FltPlan Go! us an outgrowth of the website which was used extensively by corporate and non-dispatcher Part 135 ops long before the iPad or EFBs existed. I’m not sure it was originally meant to be much more than an extension of the site for retaining the paying segment of its clientele. I suspect Garmin purchased them because if ForeFlight inroads into that customer base.

Besides. It’s free. Of course it’s not going to be as robust as the pay-for Garmin Pilot or ForeFlight. I’m actually surprised it’s as good as it is. Not sure what you’re complaining about.

Well, as a Garmin Pilot user, I wish the flight planning piece of GP was more integrated rather than spread across two apps (GP and FltPlan). Foreflight’s is more integrated and they have a really useful desktop interface for flight planning. I’m just wondering why Garmin hasn’t integrated more of those features in Garmin Pilot rather than keeping them separate. For example, Takeoff and landing Calcs, waypoint suggestions etc are all available but in FltPlan.com, not inside the GP app like they are in ForeFlight.

don't use fltplan.com fer nuthin. I used to use the fltplan go app (the runway wind calculator [and no, it isn't metal]) a long time ago when I cared how much crosswind I'd have landing on a given runway but aint nobody got time for that anymore. otherwise I don't even know that it's connected to GP, or why.

Within Garmin Pilot app, there is a menu item to access FltPlan.com, and login.
Then (still within in GP app), under Settings > FltPlan.com, login to integrate Fltplan.com with GP.

Alternatively, a web browser version of FltPlan.com is available for desktop use, which also syncs with GP app.

There is also a standalone app version, FltPlan Go, also syncs with GP app.

Using Fltplan.com since 2011, Garmin Pilot since v1, in 2012, and FltPlan GO more recently and haven’t experienced flight planning or EFB issues for GP, on iOS device(s).

However, development and features for the android version of GP app … known to be lagging behind iOS version of GP.

EDIT: and for logbook entries, currency, etc., in addition to tracking within GP, there is also a website version for desktop use at fly.garmin.com

I found Garmin Pilot to be a lot more usable once I disconnected it from my FltPlan.com account. The integration was too annoying for me to get any value from it.

Two things fltplan.com does that GP doesn’t that recall from last time I used FltPlan.com.

1. Free ios version shows you where you are on airport chart. (Need to use upgraded version of GP for that).
2. Fltplan.com uses historical winds aloft for any day of the year if you are planning a flight outside the current winds aloft forecast.

That said, nether has been compelling enough to use FltPlan.com in several years.
