I just signed the work order for my first modern piece of avionics in my Comanche. Since I'll be flying more frequently in ADS-B airspace, my priority was to be ADS-B compliant. I found a shop that gave me an amazing deal on a LYNX NGT 9000. That way, I don't just become ADS-B compliant but I also get ADS-B in and a touchscreen with additional information. Sure, it's no IFR GPS but since I'm not IFR rated anyways and probably won't be for a few more years, it gives me a ton of the same benefits that a GPS unit would give me e.g. weather display, traffic, terrain, ATIS displayed, etc. It'll look helluva strange having this device baked between radios and other avionics from the 1960s but as mentioned, this is only step one. I'll have my dream plane in 5 years - and as luck sometimes has it, the engine will probably need an overhaul once all the avionics are upgraded haha.

I was quoted the exact same for both units by two different shops so I picked the shop that offered me the Lynx at the same price as the other shop offered me the GNX375. Only difference is, the GNX would have been a new unit while Lynx is a used, overhauled unit with a one year warranty.

Edit: I didn't properly read. I never got a quote for the GNX375. I got quotes for a new GTX335 and a used, overhauled Lynx. Both quotes were about the same so I picked the Lynx.

I'm curious as to why you picked the Lynx over the 375 if they were the same price and the Lynx was used? Anything the Lynx can do (other than the active traffic, which requires an additional unlock and extra hardware, special antenna etc), the 375 can do, and more. I would totally understand a higher price for the 375, and selecting the lynx for the savings... but otherwise, I'm quite curious. What were you quoted?

I'm stupid (probably the excitement of the installation lol), I wasn't quoted the same for the 375 and the Lynx, I was quoted the same for the GTX335 and the Lynx lol. If I was quoted the same for the 375, I would have picked the 375. My quote is $5,800 for unit and installation combined.

Oh, OK! That makes a whole lot more sense. I was worried someone was trying to take advantage of you on the Lynx (or was offering you a great deal on a 375 that you weren't taking!).

I have a Lynx but I got the one thing that the Garmin 375 doesn't have, the active traffic. Damn thing saved my life once. Had some jet without ADS-B, not talking to ATC, come plowing up my rear while descending through my flight path. If it wasn't picked up by that, I'd never have had the time to react.

The Garmin 375 has active traffic. If something gets close, it says "Traffic X o'clock low/high, Y miles" and then displays it on the screen.

That's not the same active traffic. The Lynx has the capability actively interrogate and display non-ADSB transponders when the unlock is purchased and the special directional antenna is installed. It's a low grade TCAS system, like the Skywatch 497. So even Mode-C only traffic can be picked up and displayed.

Which is super important and valuable in Canada since not many have ADS-B out over here yet as it won't be required for most GA flying until 2028.
