Hi all

Looking for a new solution for mounting my iPhone in the cockpit and have been thinking about using a MagSafe mount/charger - but am concerned about introducing interference.

Have been searching forums and not finding anything. Any thoughts, experiences, opinions on using a MagSafe mount in the cockpit? Panel is 2 Dynon HDX, SV- Com 750, and Garmin 175.

Thanks

FYI: There are a number of FAA guidance docs addressing the use of portable electric devices (PEDs) in aircraft. So you could simply use those as a guide and see if the Mag charger causes any interference. If you keep the charger portable vs permanently installed you can perform all the checks. Personally I don't see any issues based on other similar devices I've installed in aircraft.

Only possible issue will be interference with your compass if the magnets are close enough.

I tried it. The magnet isn't as secure as I'd like. Even in benign weather, the usual fingerpoken would knock the phone off the mount. I went back to the x-grip.

Honestly, not being snarky at all. But with that panel why would you want your little iPhone involved?

Thanks all. So, not harmful - but probably not helpful. Sounds like how my wife describes me

Reason for the phone - I have ForeFlight running - use it for scratchpad and checklists primarily. Honestly, once I push “send to panel”, I don’t really look at it.

I do like the audible checklist - it’s like having someone in the right seat reading them out to you.
