6Y9 2024 Fly in/camp out

Thanks!

Unlike Ted we didn't think about it, we just did it.:oops::p

And in spite of that, it took you longer to do that without thinking than it normally takes me to do things with thinking. :D

To be fair, Ted, you think at a higher level than… well, everybody.

Best of all, you possess a rare but valuable trait: you don’t over-think stuff, and you’re ready to jump right in and start cutting and welding. I envy that.

Well, Spike, you say those kind words, which I do appreciate - and then I can't brain good enough to think of how to respond.

Posting this a little earlier than I normally do...but who knows they're in? Ed said the attendee list for this year is up and ready to go.

Last year had to be THE most interesting fly in of the last 18 that we have had. I hope this year can be just as interesting.... but in a totally different way. You had to be there to understand....

Pics from last year will be done soon.
Hi Dizzy, Brad Koehn and I will be coming again! Super excited.we missed 2023 because we were abroad, but we came in 2022. Brad is handling the signup sheet

So glad to hear you are planning on coming this year! We missed you last year...but sounds like you were having fun. :)

Just a heads up for those of you who book cabins...I asked them to be held for the next couple of days.

I have not checked the Airbnb.

Also, check the NOTAM as there are changes on the displaced threshold.

The other cabin behind the Station is no longer being held....if anyone is interested. She was kind enough to hold both cabins since May. One got booked, but she asked today if she could let the other go.

I snoozed and loozed ... both have been booked.

After a few delays we finally closed and spending the first weekend at the camp. And as a reminder for you all, we made a pit stop on the quads...20240802_195526.jpg

We're looking forward to being there next month. This year with the upgraded RV45. I can see from Ed's picture nobody's taken our parking spot yet.

Working a few bits of maintenance and minor upgrades over the next month before we drive up that direction.

Ted, your spot is secure!

Trying to get somewhat of an idea for the breakfast for those camping. Chime in here, sign up on the website, send me a pm, whatever. Less than a month now...and it will be our 19th fly in! Back when we started we had no idea how things would go from year to year. Our 6Y9 family has grown and we are looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Woohoo! First in the thread after Diz.

Question: Is 'camping under the wing' still the standard arrangement for folks? I know Ted's crew brings their own rolling Holiday Inn Express, but are other folks still pitching tents or are there new-fangled arrangements in place?

Welllll.... It's starting to look less likely that we will make it this year. My medical expired at the end of May and my BFR was due at the end of July. Unfortunately, this week is the first week I've been home M-F since the end of June, with more travel scheduled for the next two weeks, so getting medical (even BasicMed) AND a BFR scheduled during that time will be a big lift. Not saying 'No' just yet, but it's not looking promising.

I promise, I won't take you on the back roads in the red truck if you make it up.

And we probably won't stuff Rachel into the capped bed of a sketchy pick-up with the rest of the womenfolk (and Grant).

You HAVE to come!!! We have to continue on with the stories of long ago...lol And ohhhh the stories from the very early days!
We get it if you can't make it. Don't like it, but we get it...but still hope it works out!

We would love to see those who were with us from the very beginning be able to make it again, but sadly, that won't happen. And another sad thing is, we won't be able to continue the fly ins forever. Any given year can be the last. Not announcing, so don't read anything into that comment. But it's a reality. Every year is stressful hoping it's a success, and somehow, it happens and we just add to the memory bank. Even the couple of years that were rained out have special memories.

I promised the pics from last year would be posted soon. That was a while ago-ugh. But I have a good reason, and those who come to the fly in will come to understand my delay. When they do get posted, hopefully in the next few days, they are unedited.

Counting down the days...

Once they FINALLY get in my hands it only takes about an hour to get them up.

Come on, Chris. Figure it out. We're looking forward to seeing you there. :)

Can’t help you with your medical, but I could do you flight review.

I keep looking at this and my schedule and keep thinking “hey, what if I just throw a tent in the car and drive 17 hours?”

There's also the option of airlining up to Chicago, Milwaukee, Duluth would be closer - there are some other options. Then rent a car and drive the rest of the way.

Yeah yeah, those are options I never did, and now we drive a bus.

Or find someone with an extra seat coming from said locations....

Also Dave I may have an open seat from Chicago. There's a little bit of maneuvering I have to do with my plane reservation still. Sorry, not the PC12.

We are having to bail due to my plane likely being down for a bit.
I just released the reservation on the Sidnaw Lodge. It is a nice little 2 bedroom cabin with a pretty nice living area and kitchen.
Pretty good WiFi too.

Dang! We'll miss you!
We had the lodge last year, and I recommend it. I think Kent's had it in the past, too. If a bunch of people in tents want to grab it, it would work well! Not a lot of privacy though, and only a single washroom, IIRC.

Bummer, are you still fighting high oil temps?

I have put in an order for the northern lights, but have not yet received a confirmation.

Yes...a week!!! We're ready. Almost. Lol.

Safe travels to everyone.
