Similarities to Aspen crash (Trigger warning: Kardashian content)

I happened upon this story about a planned trip to Aspen (embarrassed to say) where the passengers were rejected the idea of landing in Rifle instead of Aspen...

What's the cheapest/easiest way to create a power source for bench testing things like nav lights. Just get a 12v battery?

Controller question: Any benefit to knowing pilot can see traffic on screen?

Let me preface my question by getting this out of the way: if traffic is called out to me, I either see it ("traffic in sight") or I do not see it ("negative contact") and reply accordingly. Now on to the question... With increasing traffic information in the cockpit, I was wondering if there...

Moisture somewhere in PA32 trim system?

In my last couple of flights when I have climbed high enough to be at or below freezing temps, the manual trim wheel would get very difficult to move. (I don't use the electric trim) It seems to resolve when I descend back into warmer air. The only thing I can think of is that there is...

    Petaluma airport closed

Bummer we can't fly, but nice to be able to demonstrate the facility's utility in an emergency. These fires are something else. http://www.petaluma360.com/news/7522503-181/petaluma-airport-becomes-base-for O69 PETALUMA MUNI !OAK 10/106 O69 AD AP CLSD 1710131409-1710232359

ADS-B Out: Would you pay $700 more for 1090 ES over 978 UAT

Here's my dilemma -- how important is ADS-B transmission frequency? 1) In this corner, weighing in at $1,795 (not including installation), is the Garmin GDL 82. 2) And in this corner, weighing in at $2,495 (not including installation), is the Stratus ES. Plane is a normally aspirated Lance -...

    Airport identifier trivia

I may be the last to know this, but many one-letter, two-number airport identifiers are keyed off of the Air Traffic Control center area in which they are located. For example, my home airport is within Oakland center's geography and is O69. Many other airports in the same area also have an...

Can you download a database for offline use with FlyGarmin?

I just switched our nav data subscription for the 430W from Jeppesen over to Garmin. It does not appear that I can download the database for offline programming (as I used to be able to do with Jeppesen). Is this consistent with others' experience or am I missing something? Thanks!

eBay: Isn't this where you sell things?

I'm beginning to think eBay is just an illusion. Here's the story: Daughter has been saving up for a while for a camera. In order to put her over the top, she's interested in selling her American Girl doll on eBay. "No problem" I say. "We'll just list it on eBay." Attempt #!: So, we create...

So, homebuilders...who are we and where do we stand?

I really enjoy reading the student pilot progress in that long running thread. It would be great to hear from the homebuilders. I know there's at least one SuperCub-type plane and a few RV's in process by members here...

    Video: real life weather flying

I watch Steveo's videos for entertainment and dreaming about TBM850's, but thought his latest video was instructive on a number of levels. Using on-board radar (made it very clear to me the perils of using nexrad in the same situation) Staying ahead of the plane (anticipating where the missed...

Looking for input on terminal building design features

I'm looking for feedback on what folks here think makes for a great terminal building. Let's assume this is a smaller airport (3500' runway, no tower, no FBOs - city-run fuel operation) with some, and hopefully more, turboprop/jet service. Also, any examples of great facilities are...

The Great Jeremiah Weed Race (aka Norcal meetup)

So, I need to execute on some reverse logistics and get the item pictured below to Sac Arrow in payment for the monkey currently making its way to the east coast. I thought we could use the excuse for a Norcal meetup somewhere. Anyone interested? Maybe this Saturday or Sunday?

Non-"Mooney" planes that Mooney had a hand in designing

I've know for a while that the "M" in TBM stood for Mooney and that the company was involved in the initial development, but I just read that they were also involved in the development of the MU-2. Are there others they were involved with?

10 year solo anniversary -- a great flying day

(cross-posted from Red Board) Did you ever have one of those magical flying days? Today is the 10 year anniversary of my first solo (yes, Halloween), and I wanted to commemorate it with something special. A friend of mine had expressed an interest in flying. So, I thought what a better day...
