Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

Good for you! I like your approach as I feel too many instrument students who post here fixate on passing the written vs truly understanding the material. If you understand the material passing the test is a piece of cake. and you’ll be much better prepared to operate in the system post check...

    Resume Own Nav...

I think ABC is still the clearance limit because they said direct to FXNAM vs cleared to FXNAM. With the direct to my understanding is they are turning responsibility for navigation over to the pilot but the route and clearance limit remain unchanged.

GPS Direct to fix, homing vs track

This is actually a topic that was brought up this the week on Opposing Bases. It's apparently happening with more regularity. The issue is ATC is expecting a pilot do X as part of their overall airspace management plan which is dynamic and predicated on everyone doing their part in a timely...

Vans Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

According to a post on VAF the objections to the plan were: (1) it holds back 20% of projected income for reinvestment of the business; (2) only provides for payment of 55% of general unsecured creditor claim amounts over three years instead of actual disposable income and more percentage over...

New iPad Nano Textured Glass in Cockpit?

Not sure the $1700 price point is worth the upgrade just for that nano-texture option unless you're in the market for a top of the line tablet. Otherwise I just can't see how the new screen would be that much of a game changer. I've been using a tablet in the cockpit as an EFB for 14 years now...

What are the Necessary IFR Navaid Instruments in 2020???

Where'd you get that WAAS is applicable to only 537 approaches? Every LPV approach is WAAS enabled and there are way more than 537 GPS RNAV approaches out there with LPV minima.

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

As I see you are on VAF now, make another post over there asking if anyone has a 14 in NC, SC, Eastern TN or Southern VA that you could come take a look at and pick their brain and reiterate you're thinking about building--most guys I know would then offer you a ride without you even asking.

Vans Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

So as many know, Vans filed their reorg plan but you might not know that the US Trustee (i.e. the Department of Justice) recently filed an objection to said plan. Apparently today there was a hearing and the reorganization plan was approved by the court and the trustee withdrew their objection...

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

Building isn't a panacea to get into ownership-- there's a reason we say if you want to fly, buy, if you want to build, build. The 2 years and under builds for most RVs are exceptions to the rule--as I stated most do take 3-4 years on avg. I took 9 myself. It's a daunting proposition and one...

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

Are you retired? That's a lot of effort for very little ROI IMO.

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

Well he opened with thinking about ordering an RV-14 so there's that. I know of a number of RV-10s, which is a big plane, done start to finish in less than 2 years and these were not full time builds so it can be done. That said anecdotally I'd say non-RV12 models average more like 3.5-4...

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

I started my project in my finished basement workshop until I outgrew the door dimensions and like Kyle moved in half of our 2-car garage. I had everything on wheels of some sort so I could move my wife's car out and use the whole garage as needed and then push everything back for storage and...

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

If your only reason to go to A&P school is to work on your own plane AND you want to go E-AB, then as mentioned you technically don't need it so don't waste the time and money on the school unless you feel you really need it to competently and safely maintain your plane. Instead pour that time...

    E/AB final weight?

I figured that’s what you meant but I’m still more drunk than expert by a wide margin. Anyway, there are best practices that are recommended to be followed regardless of whether a plane is capable of acro or not. The beauty of following the RV community is, as you noted, there’s a lot of savvy...
