Yes, I've received a lot of critical feedback on my post. Apparently all the support I had from the original post has dried up. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Regardless, I've mostly hidden the post as it appears to not be helping.
Your summary is fundamentally correct, but what else can we go...
Some interesting discussion here; let me hopefully clarify things by providing specifics to the situation of these DPEs. I'll summarize below but I've made a follow up reddit thread here if you wish to see more details...
I started the reddit post and am working on collecting facts since rumors are running rampant (as expected).
I can confirm directly from a firsthand source that at least one termination did indeed happen as rumored and it was highly irregular and on the spot during a checkride with the examinee...
Minor point of interest; it looks to me like the edges were ground down, not filed. Most likely with an angle grinder. Someone should have seen this if it was hastily done somewhere as it would throw of a fireworks display of sparks. On this item alone I'd suspect the mechanic. Good luck.
Called Sheppard Air, they stated that the new IR supplement was released which added a bunch of new figures. However, they stated that the existing test was exactly the same as the one a month ago. So, Sheppard Air exam prep is still just as useful as ever; at least until the new exam questions...
Regardless of who was correct about the turbulence, he deliberately stressed out a passenger AND a pilot knowing you had a return flight to make. If it truly was dangerous conditions then he just removed the "S" from IMSAFE. I don't care what happened or not, he showed incredibly poor judgement...
I feel I have a decent handle on the material, just wanted to give myself the best shot at it. I saw that thread a few weeks ago but if I recall that was talking about the test being changed not about the supplements or ACS being changed. The revision for those was both done in June 2017. My...
So, I just saw that the FAA issued a revised test supplement and ACS for the instrument rating. I was going to sign up for Sheppard Air test prep but this seems like a waste now as the new supplement seems quite different than the old. I assume a lot of questions changed because of this.
Anyone...
Indeed. I may have to re-evaluate our decision making for our climb to the tops. While I think we still did our flight 100% safely (our ice was barely more than a frost) your experience definitely shows that even a minute in the clouds can be enough for significant icing.
Popped my ice cherry when I flew Sunday with an IFR rated safety pilot and he filed so we didn't have to go under a broken layer. Went into Northern Maine to shoot some approaches and it was 4°C at 6,000. Went to 8,000 and were 500 below the tops at 0°C with no ice so we decided to go up above...
Yeah, I could see the throttle losing response, or the mixture losing response, but not both. About the only thing that could seem possible is literally the entire fuel servo jamming allowing for not adjustment of any component in it. Is this even possible?
