Unless something has changed no FAA medical is needed to fly under the Sport Pilot certificate. A VALID state-issued driver's license takes the place of the FAA medical.

It's been a few years but when we started wintering in Mesa, AZ I had a few refresher and check-out lessons (Sport Cert) at Falcon Filed (KFFZ) in Mesa.

My advice is to have that hard conversation now! The longer you wait the more complicated it may get. Her 'biological clock is not your problem.

Unfortunately for the OP that's not the current regulation and is a matter for congress and the FAA admin. to consider. His three DUIs before age 21 is a very steep mountain to traverse under current regulations. Consulting an aviation atty will give the OP a legal answer but he might be better...
