    Wag-Aero's Demise

As a single-source, knowing other manufacturers have high barriers, what it shows is abject disregard for the consumers of the product.

All of what you say is true, but I have no idea from where Hartzell sources component parts. Additionally, a higher PPI doesn't mean Hartzell won't use pricing as a strategic weapon. Seems I recall a few years ago Hartzell made the shaft and Continental the gears of a tsio starter adapter. Rumor...

A starter that was $600 in 2021 is now $1,500. A prop governor return spring that was $60 in December is $150 in January. These prices far outstrip inflation. It's just as likely the we're being forced to pay for the buyout leverage, simply because we have no alternatives.

We could have along discussion on whether a 3 year horizon qualifies as long-term, but I'll leave that. The third alternative is that PE buys Hartzell cognizant of the fact that it is in a highly regulated, mature industry, with nearly insurmountable regulatory capture preventing new entry, and...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

PE is neither all corporate looters, nor all angel investors. Some are pretty much corporate looters, others careful to grow key parts of the acquired businesses. It all depends on the firms structure, environment, rivals and where it is in it's business cycle. A discussion of specific cases...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

The SEC frowns on no such thing. Corporations commonly own homes for executive residences. I sold a home in Connecticut to Cigna for just that reason. Your BoD is another matter, but maybe have a talk with your compensation committee when your contract comes up. Sell them the house.

If you maintain a second home in a town solely for business purposes, why does your company not own the property and expense it?

Then any and all expenses from maintaining, advertising, accounting, financing, taxes and every other expense associated with the property, as well as any depreciation, accelerated or otherwise, would have been deducted from income during the course of ownership, which presents a whole host of...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Factual? OK. Your parents have a $565k cap gain from the sale of the house that they bought for $35k and is their primary residence. They made money but the cap gain isn't going to be taxed at anything like 27.6%. If they are both living, the first $500k is tax exempt. If one is dead, the...

    Pocket knife: Weird or normal?

I've still got the Cub Scout knife my Gramp gave me in 4th grade. I'm 65 and carry it now and then just for grins. During hay season I always have a knife of some description, usually serrated with a hook blade for clearing the baler knotter. The most useful pocket tool I have though is a mini-...

    Anyone heard of this?

Doesn't any real, stocks, bonds etc, except annuities, pass to heirs on a stepped up basis, regardless of it being being probated or held in trust? Not sure I'm following this.

    Insurance Companies

AVEMCO likes what they rate as category A and B aircraft, low-powered taildraggers like Aeroncas and Cubs and such, and fixed-gear under 200hp. That's where they can be most competitive. HP, complex and multi they may underwrite but usually at a higher premium than other companies.

My undergrad diploma came intact but stained and a bit worse for wear. I figured it was a good metaphor.
